About The Glitch Files
Every game has rules. Every rule has a breaking point.
The Glitch Files investigates the strangest moments in sports history: the loopholes, the malfunctions, and the tactics that were brilliant right up until they weren't legal anymore. We're not cataloging trivia. We're studying the exact moment human ingenuity outran the rulebook.
THE PURSUIT OF THE META
Gamers have a word for this: the meta. Technically it's short for "metagame," the strategy that exists above and around the actual rules. Unofficially, players will tell you it stands for Most Effective Tactic Available. Both are true. It's the game played on top of the game: patches, statistics, opponent habits, whatever wins that just reading the instructions never would.
Professional sports run on the exact same instinct. There's real joy in finding an exploit, in reading a hundred-year-old rulebook and realizing nobody thought to ban something this ridiculous. But the same hunger for an edge that finds a clever workaround can just as easily find outright sabotage. That line is what every case file in this book is actually about.
THE INVESTIGATORS
ERIC
Lead investigator. Researches and writes the case files.
SHELTON
Co-investigator and lead critic. Helps downselect case topics. Reads everything first. Delivers verdicts…typically "too long" or "not exciting enough". He is usually right.
THE BOOK
Each chapter is a single Case File. Sometimes the glitch is a loophole. Sometimes it's a rule broken outright. Sometimes nothing gets broken at all: a machine fails, a human blinks, the odds do something nobody saw coming. Every case still ends the same way: what the sport did next. Readers help decide which cases make the final lineup. Every open file on this site is a real candidate for the book itself.
